Alright...so lately I've been posting chapters of the story I've been working on, and I figured I should probably post a painting, as that's what I've promised to put up.
Aside from that, I don't have much to say about this painting. The assignment from today's watercolor class was to do a landscape (I hate landscapes)...and I had promised my teacher that this semester, I would try new things...and mostly follow the curriculum.
So I gritted my teeth and turned out this (really, really bad) landscape.
I think this landscape turned out quite well. The only thing I could see, is the bottom maybe needs a bit more blending of the lighter colors. Great work, as usual.
Actually, it isn't half as bad as you think it is. I rather like it :] it looks better farther away...like a Monet. Up close you can see all the shapes the colors take, which takes your mind away from "this is a mountain" and takes it to "these are a bunch of purple squiggles." If I had to make a suggestion it would be to try adding a bit more water to the canvas (not the brush) and let everything run together a little bit more.

Thanks. Looking at it today, I like it more than when I turned it out yesterday. As to your suggestion...I know you're right. Mr. Owen has told me that himself. On this particular painting, stuff just dried too fast, so I had to make due with what I had.

That has happened to me before, it's even worse with acrylics. I wouldn't worry too much. As my friend says: art is about expression, so why do these teachers try and repress it? Not to say they are repressing you. Sorry about my ranting.
Well thats good. Thats a technique that helps when you're stuck. Put the art away and look at it again after doing something else for a few hours. Your mind will go right to the problem spots and make it easier for you to fix. But if you look at it again later and it looks better than you thought it did, then you did just fine and it doesn't need to be fixed. :] Thats how I can tell if I'm being overly-critical.
Haha. I was just making a semi-educated guess based on what little I learned about watercolors six years or more ago. XD If an actual art teacher said the same thing, then I just made myself feel better. lol I'm glad if I can help though.
