Alright, as promised, here's the first painting I've done this semester (that I'm proud of).
As the title suggests, it was inspired by a nebula in space...and I'm planning on doing a few others like it, to really get the feel for this style of painting...but I don't know if I'll post all of the ones I do along this same line.
It's the first time I've ever attempted anything like this...so I'm eager to hear what you all think.
What kind of paint are you using? Its an interesting painting, but I'd like to see it expanded further with more color (or an expansion on the ones already in place) and a use of values to make the stars 'glow' in a sense. I thought this was an abstract at first because some of the flares of the nebula look like people just floating through space. Anyways, good job and I hope you expand on the theme some- I'd try at some oil pastels as well as it makes a very good way to experiment with the color choices and to do studies from photos to understand structure of the stars and nebulas.

This painting is a watercolor...I use Strathmore 400 paper and Yarka paints. I have another set of paints that my teacher told me would give me more brilliant colors over the black ink in the background.
Like I said, this is my first real attempt at anything like this, and I've already come up with some things that will make my next attempt look better.
Hopefully the other paints will produce better colors...the more translucent paints just seemed to fade on the ink. My teacher tells me my opaque paints will work better...so we'll see how the next attempt goes.
Thanks again.
